In the following years, this number increased to 2312 and by the end of 1975, about 8000 new colleges were added to this huge total. Currently the Board is handling close to 10238 numbers of schools. With the increase in the number of recognized schools, the examinees appearing in the Secondary Examination have also increased at an unprecedented rate.  In 1952, the Board used to handle only 42000 examinees, whereas in the year of 1976 the total number increased to more than five lakhs and in 2006 this figure jumped to nearly 8 lakhs.

To cater to the ever increasing demand and contemporary requirements, the Board time and again has restructured the curricula. To carry out this uphill task successfully, the Board never hesitated in taking help of independent panel of experts. The Board has also introduced new additional subjects to cope with the ever changing demand of modern times. The administration of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education is run in a democratic and decentralized manner and all the Board members are elected from relevant constituencies. From 1989, the examination system has been entirely computerized and the Board is in the process of total computerization of works. Its impeccable, spotless track record has enabled the Board carve out a distinct identity for itself among other educational boards operational in India.
