The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is an Indian Government Agency responsible for proper implementing the AADHAAR Scheme, a Unique Identification Number that helps citizens of India establish their identity.  Initially conceived by the Planning Commission, Unique Identification Project was initiated with the launch of the Unique Identification Authority of India. UIDAI was set up in February 2009, and is entrusted with the function of operating the Unique Identification Number Database. This Indian Government Agency aims to provide a Unique ID Number to all Indian nationals across the country. The Unique Identification Authority of India launched AADHAAR Program for the very first time in the tribal village, Tembhli, in Shahada, Nandurbar in the Indian state of Maharashtra on 29 September 2010.  Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh inaugurated the program along with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and other party members.
