The National Commission for Women was brought into existence in the year of 1992. It is a statutory body for women incorporated by Government of India under the provisions laid down in the Indian Constitution, as defined in the 1990 National Commission for Women Act. Currently, Mrs. Mamta Sharma, former MLA of Bundi district of Rajasthan is the head of the National Commission for Women in India. Since its modest commencement in 1992, the commission has taken various steps towards improving the status of women by providing them various economic empowerment opportunities. The prime reason behind bringing the National Commission for Women into being is to:
