Rajkumari Amrit Kaur College of Nursing was established in 1946. It is a constituent part of Delhi University, which is also known as University of Delhi or DU. The college is open for girls only. It works in close association with health centres, hospitals, medical centres; and allied agencies for imparting the standard courses. Rajkumari Amrit Kaur College of Nursing was founded in 1946 by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Ever since its inception, a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research has made the college a role-model and path-setter for other institutions in the country. Its rich academic tradition has always attracted the most talented students who later on went on to make important contributions to their society.   The main objective then, was developing and demonstrating model programmes in nursing education. Now, the college provides good academic environment for those girl students, who wish to make a career in the field of nursing, by pursuing quality education. It is controlled financially by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The institute was set up to train young women as professional Nurses for meeting the health needs of the country. In 1959, the University approved the initiation of two years Master of Nursing Programme. M.Phil. in Nursing was started in 1986 as a foundation course for undertaking Doctoral Work and in the years 1992, Doctoral Programme in Nursing was started under Department of Nursing, of Delhi University. Besides the regular Academic Programmes, the educational body conducts short term courses for nursing personnel through the Department of Continuing Education. The College is also designated as a regional Study Centre for Ph. D Programme in Nursing conducted by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science, in collaboration with WHO and Indian Nursing Council, Bangalore. Rajkumari Amrit Kaur College of Nursing is in the process of being established as centre of excellence in Nursing by the ministry of Health & Family Welfare. The college provides good infrastructure facilities such as Library, Laboratory and well furnished class rooms. Rajkumari Amrit Kaur College of Nursing has professionally trained and highly qualified faculty. At the time of admission, a candidate is regarded eligibility if she has scored 50% marks in Physics, Biology and Chemistry in the 10+2 examination with an age of 17 years.
